Touring and Racing SUP boards
Big Winds is stoked to offer several outstanding boards in the “Tour / Race” class. We’ve paddled and raced these boards up and down the Columbia River in a wide range of conditions, from glassy, flat water to rough and exciting big river swells in 30 knots of wind.
There’s a tendency to regard these boards as too technical or just for racing. Some models out there certainly are just that and aren’t well suited for everyday paddling. But the four boards presented here are super versatile and appropriate for anyone with even modest skills looking for an efficient, smooth and yes, fast (!) board to enjoy in conditions ranging from smooth flat water to challenging open water.
Naish Glide 14’
The King of the down wind race boards. The Glide 14’ consistently is at the top of the heap in the Maui down wind races. It took three of the top six places in the recent StandUp4Cancer Endurance Race in the Gorge. It’s not only fast, it’s FUN! Available in AST or Sandwich construction.
Amundson 12’6” TR
The newest addition to our offering, this board is super versatile, fast, and an exceptional value at $1299! The TR (for Tour Race) won the SUP4Cancer Race, establishing it as a true contender among the down winder fleet. It’s stable and fast, an excellent choice! Available in AST or TR-X Carbon construction.
Naish Glide 12’
A great all around touring board. Reasonably fast and very stable, a good choice for a proven versatile cruiser that can handle a wide range of conditions. Available in AST or Sandwich construction.
Starboard Free Race
An awesome flat water race/tour board. The Free Race has great glide, is plenty stable for an intermediate paddler and is fast enough to be competitive in its class. It can handle a fair amount of choppy water and breeze and blazes in glassy conditions. Available in AST or Brushed Carbon construction.
